My husband and I wanted a new home, but, after having a bad experience with a homebuilder in the past, we were skeptical about contracting with a homebuilder to handle the construction. We wanted to have control over the quality of the home we were building and wanted to know that the construction of our home would not drag out for more than six months. We were also concerned that because we did not know the first thing about building a home, we would be taken advantage of by subcontractors.
We called Built By U Homes (Jeff Rusert) and were immediately impressed. We met with Jeff a few days later to discuss our options and decided to build the home ourselves and hired Jeff to work as our consultant. In September, 2004, we found the perfect piece of property to build our home. We then began having house plans drawn and Jeff and I started working on the budget to submit to the lending company. In mid-October we began clearing the property and digging the basement.

Within two weeks of the excavating, we hit solid rock and could not dig our basement any further without the assistance of explosives. This was my and my husband's worst fear, but Jeff was there to assist us every step of the way. He assured us that everything would work out and we would have a beautiful home. Well, 3 months later, he was right. We moved into our beautiful new home on January 28, 2005.

My husband has a hectic work schedule and, as a result, I was primarily responsible for dealing with all aspects of the construction process (i.e. the subcontractors, inspectors, scheduling, budgeting, etc.). There were some challenges along the way, but Jeff was always a phone call away to help me get through them. At least twice a week he made visits to the job site to inspect the construction and to make sure that the construction remained on schedule.

I spoke to Jeff nearly every day about some aspect of the construction of the home. He was always willing to answer my questions and went out of his way to help me understand some of the technical issues associated with the construction.We have truly enjoyed our dealings with Jeff and Built By U homes, his assistance during the construction has truly been an asset. We could not have built the home of our dreams without him. We will definitely use Jeff again to assist in the construction of our next home and will recommend him to all of our friends. Oh, and by the way, not only do we have the home of our dreams, we have over $50,000 in equity in the home because we built it ourselves.
